What We're About

Have trouble finding brands that are for us 👉🏾✋🏾 You’re not alone. Eurocentric search algorithms across the web make discovering Black-owned businesses more difficult than it should be. What’s more, many black business owners have trouble reaching their most eager supporters(their own community).

Our mission is to connect black consumers and black businesses in a way that’s easy, meaningful, and helpful. We believe that our platform is an effective way for anyone to buy black and redirect black dollars back to the community.

Our Vision

We aim to create an internet browsing experience that provides a black owned business for every search that a person could make across every type of device while being the leading marketing solution for black businesses and creators.

Our History

2020
An Idea is Born
High school besties Ndidi Chimah and Shekinah Brown noticed that black people have to do extra work to find relevant results online. Furthermore, they realized that most online platforms are actually biased toward white and Eurocentric results. They wanted to make something that leveled the playing field.

2021
Laying The Foundation
Ndidi and Shekinah dedicated themselves to refining their concept and conducting extensive research. They delved deep into understanding the challenges faced by black-owned businesses and the hurdles faced by consumers seeking these businesses online. This pivotal year allowed them to lay the groundwork for what would soon become the SowBlack vision.
2021
2022
Acceleration & Development
In May 2022, Ndidi, along with Ariel Roberts and Serena Romero, embarked on a significant milestone in SowBlack's journey. They participated in a rigorous business accelerator program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This experience equipped them with the knowledge, resources, and mentorship needed to turn their vision into a reality.
